My beautiful son- Ace

I love this boy with everything that I am. I can't give him enough hugs & kisses or tell him I love him enough - that he will ever understand the depth of my unconditional love for him. He makes me laugh on a daily basis and never ceases to amaze me with his observations. I LOVE YOU ACE!!! Here are just a few recent pictures I took of him at the park over the past week. I can't believe my boy is 2 1/2! My how time flies!

Feeling Patriotic

I stopped by Scrap Happens on Wed or Thurs last week and picked up my newest "design team" project. It was some select sheets and stickers from the "Freedom 2009" collection by Reminisce. I wasn't quite sure what to think of them. I'm not one for making many Patriotic pages. Cathy (the owner) told me to look at this as a challenge. She asked for a 2 page layout. Hmmm (shaking my head) What to do, what to do...

I went home, feeling uninspired, and spread out the pages to at least take pictures of them. I figured if I took a picture and started trying to sketch in my head then maybe something would come to me. I flipped through a few of my newest Creating Keepsakes and Scrapbooks Etc. magazines and found a layout. The only problem with the sketches in the magazines, is that they don't always have an example to go with them. That was the problem in this case. I made the page but it was so busy that I couldn't bear to make the 2nd page of the layout. Tossed it in the trash. Back to square one.

Earlier in the day I'd run across this wonderful idea on the "oneheart-onemind" blog and thought it was pretty cool. I had printed it out in hopes of using my scraps from some other papers. As this printout sat in front of me an idea came to mind... what if I use these patriotic papers and see what happens.

Well, here's what happened! I cut out 2 identical sizes of chipboard. On one, I drew a box 3/4" in all the way around. I used my ruler and craft knife and cut out the center, creating a frame. I painted both sheets of chipboard "cranberry" I then cut the papers into 1" squares (would have been much more precise with an acutal square punch, but we all make do sometimes) and started adhering them to the base red piece, separating each piece 1/8" on all sides. I layered a sheet of acetate on top of that. Used foam tape to mount the frame on top of the acetate and then used a rub on to say July. Turned out pretty patriotic if I do say so myself!

Now yes I do remember that Cathy asked for a 2 page layout and no, I haven't finished it. It's pretty close to done, but I took a whole new approach. Once I put the finishing touches on it, I'll post it here for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy your week!

My Little Monster Acrylic

I love how some people can look at a layout and somehow turn it into something completely different. I started with this layout by Tami Sanders on Wednesday. I had most of the papers and even emailed her for the template for the handcut "monster" lettering. I got home all jazzed to duplicate the layout, glanced at my stock of monster papers, started sketching, and then had to run errands. I didn't get very far...

Today I decided that I was making this page. Too bad I didn't have everything I needed. Plus, I'm all about improvising a little now and again, and sometimes it just takes an image to jump start your own creativity. I started moving some papers around after work today and tried to sketch this out again. It ended up taking on a life of it's own and I had no control. Here's what I created AND I EVEN PUT PICTURES ON IT!!!
It is actually 2- 8x8 acrylic sheets held together with baby blue O-Wires and the holes from my trusty Bind It All. The striped and dotted papers are on the back of the acrylic and the pictures are matted on top of the acrylic. That way I could hide the adhesive used for taking the under side pages down.
Well- off to clean my scrap table. Tomorrow's another day and I have a new project to get down to work on! Need to think patriotic with stars and stripes....

Stop and look...down?

Sometimes in life, you really just need to stop and take a look ... down. I can't tell you how many times I've walked through the rocks in my front yard not thinking twice about what I stepped on.

In the past few days, I've noticed a Killdeer bird spending a lot of time around the rocks in my front yard. There are plenty of them around the neighborhood so I didn't think too much of it. Occasionally it would walk away and appear to have an injured wing. I felt sorry for it. Today though- all that changed. The neighbor kid was over mowing and he found a nest hidden in the rocks.

So that's what mama bird was up to! On the website about the Killdeer birds, it states that the birds lay their eggs in rocks and that the eggs take about 28 days to hatch. You can be sure that I'm going to be watching these little eggs with the hopes of getting pictures of the babies when they hatch! I just hope the local rattlesnakes don't find the eggs first.

Time to paint...

Well we've lived in our house for about 5 years now. Surprising how it doesn't feel like it. Well, once I start getting the "itch" to move, it pretty much means that no, we aren't moving, but that I need to freshen things up a bit. I've been thinking about this for a little bit now, and I decided that I need to paint my craft room, and I need to paint it blue. Blue is just so calming, and refreshing, and well- I think, no, I know, blue IS my favorite color! The only problem is that I have no idea what shade of blue I want! As with most rooms, the colors depend on the lighting and this room sure gets a lot of light. It's amazing how differently the color chips look at the store, compared to when you actually get them home!

I'm well on my way now to picking a shade for my hopefully sudo- new craft room! Hopefully it'll make me straighten up a bit so I can actually craft IN my craft room! Any shade suggestions? I think I'm leaning towards the 2nd horozontal one from the top, but then again, the very bottom left one is nice too... The paint chips have only been on the wall for about 5 minutes, while I'm typing so it'll be interesting to see what I finally decide on. I'll keep you posted! LMK if you think one looks better than another!
