My beautiful son- Ace

I love this boy with everything that I am. I can't give him enough hugs & kisses or tell him I love him enough - that he will ever understand the depth of my unconditional love for him. He makes me laugh on a daily basis and never ceases to amaze me with his observations. I LOVE YOU ACE!!! Here are just a few recent pictures I took of him at the park over the past week. I can't believe my boy is 2 1/2! My how time flies!

Feeling Patriotic

I stopped by Scrap Happens on Wed or Thurs last week and picked up my newest "design team" project. It was some select sheets and stickers from the "Freedom 2009" collection by Reminisce. I wasn't quite sure what to think of them. I'm not one for making many Patriotic pages. Cathy (the owner) told me to look at this as a challenge. She asked for a 2 page layout. Hmmm (shaking my head) What to do, what to do...

I went home, feeling uninspired, and spread out the pages to at least take pictures of them. I figured if I took a picture and started trying to sketch in my head then maybe something would come to me. I flipped through a few of my newest Creating Keepsakes and Scrapbooks Etc. magazines and found a layout. The only problem with the sketches in the magazines, is that they don't always have an example to go with them. That was the problem in this case. I made the page but it was so busy that I couldn't bear to make the 2nd page of the layout. Tossed it in the trash. Back to square one.

Earlier in the day I'd run across this wonderful idea on the "oneheart-onemind" blog and thought it was pretty cool. I had printed it out in hopes of using my scraps from some other papers. As this printout sat in front of me an idea came to mind... what if I use these patriotic papers and see what happens.

Well, here's what happened! I cut out 2 identical sizes of chipboard. On one, I drew a box 3/4" in all the way around. I used my ruler and craft knife and cut out the center, creating a frame. I painted both sheets of chipboard "cranberry" I then cut the papers into 1" squares (would have been much more precise with an acutal square punch, but we all make do sometimes) and started adhering them to the base red piece, separating each piece 1/8" on all sides. I layered a sheet of acetate on top of that. Used foam tape to mount the frame on top of the acetate and then used a rub on to say July. Turned out pretty patriotic if I do say so myself!

Now yes I do remember that Cathy asked for a 2 page layout and no, I haven't finished it. It's pretty close to done, but I took a whole new approach. Once I put the finishing touches on it, I'll post it here for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy your week!

My Little Monster Acrylic

I love how some people can look at a layout and somehow turn it into something completely different. I started with this layout by Tami Sanders on Wednesday. I had most of the papers and even emailed her for the template for the handcut "monster" lettering. I got home all jazzed to duplicate the layout, glanced at my stock of monster papers, started sketching, and then had to run errands. I didn't get very far...

Today I decided that I was making this page. Too bad I didn't have everything I needed. Plus, I'm all about improvising a little now and again, and sometimes it just takes an image to jump start your own creativity. I started moving some papers around after work today and tried to sketch this out again. It ended up taking on a life of it's own and I had no control. Here's what I created AND I EVEN PUT PICTURES ON IT!!!
It is actually 2- 8x8 acrylic sheets held together with baby blue O-Wires and the holes from my trusty Bind It All. The striped and dotted papers are on the back of the acrylic and the pictures are matted on top of the acrylic. That way I could hide the adhesive used for taking the under side pages down.
Well- off to clean my scrap table. Tomorrow's another day and I have a new project to get down to work on! Need to think patriotic with stars and stripes....

Stop and look...down?

Sometimes in life, you really just need to stop and take a look ... down. I can't tell you how many times I've walked through the rocks in my front yard not thinking twice about what I stepped on.

In the past few days, I've noticed a Killdeer bird spending a lot of time around the rocks in my front yard. There are plenty of them around the neighborhood so I didn't think too much of it. Occasionally it would walk away and appear to have an injured wing. I felt sorry for it. Today though- all that changed. The neighbor kid was over mowing and he found a nest hidden in the rocks.

So that's what mama bird was up to! On the website about the Killdeer birds, it states that the birds lay their eggs in rocks and that the eggs take about 28 days to hatch. You can be sure that I'm going to be watching these little eggs with the hopes of getting pictures of the babies when they hatch! I just hope the local rattlesnakes don't find the eggs first.

Time to paint...

Well we've lived in our house for about 5 years now. Surprising how it doesn't feel like it. Well, once I start getting the "itch" to move, it pretty much means that no, we aren't moving, but that I need to freshen things up a bit. I've been thinking about this for a little bit now, and I decided that I need to paint my craft room, and I need to paint it blue. Blue is just so calming, and refreshing, and well- I think, no, I know, blue IS my favorite color! The only problem is that I have no idea what shade of blue I want! As with most rooms, the colors depend on the lighting and this room sure gets a lot of light. It's amazing how differently the color chips look at the store, compared to when you actually get them home!

I'm well on my way now to picking a shade for my hopefully sudo- new craft room! Hopefully it'll make me straighten up a bit so I can actually craft IN my craft room! Any shade suggestions? I think I'm leaning towards the 2nd horozontal one from the top, but then again, the very bottom left one is nice too... The paint chips have only been on the wall for about 5 minutes, while I'm typing so it'll be interesting to see what I finally decide on. I'll keep you posted! LMK if you think one looks better than another!

Simple Journal

I found the inspiration for this journal on the website of one of my local scrapbook stores. Looked pretty cool. I initially thought of putting it on canvas but by the time I actually started it, I had forgotten about the canvas and decided to use my BIA! The paper is from the remaining pieces of the Teresa Collins kit I used on the previous book of my son. Now I can finally throw away the rest! Job well done (all during my son's 2 hour nap time too!) It really WAS that simple!!!

Additional Supplies:
Tim Holtz fragments
Ranger Glossy Accents
Bind it All (BIA) & BIA Rings

Mini Album

I had my friend Kelley over on Friday night to scrap with me. We had a good time giggling at anything and everything! She was very productive and I, well, I started yet another project... BUT I did finish (or almost finish) it! As I stated in one of my earlier posts, I need to use up all of the paper from a kit- or throw it away. So, I decided to use it up. It was one of Teresa Collins's lines which I loved. Of course, the book is once again about Ace, my beloved 2 1/2 yr old.

Altered CD Tin

Here's a fabulous gift I made for my mom's birthday (which is actually TODAY!). It's a CD tin and it has pages added inside to hold pics and journaling, etc. Turned out great! Has pics of my parents and my mom with myself and my 3 younger brothers as we were growing up. Even has a pic of her with her first Grandson! What a special gift!

Boy am I busy!

Hey Fans- Please don't worry, I am still around! I've been so busy since Scrapbook Camp that I haven't even had time to post.
I know I mentioned before Scrap Camp that I would be making things with my new beloved bird paper, but unfortunately- it never came out of the box. It's amazing how much paper one can accumulate without even realizing! I did get tons of pages done and had a blast with my girl friends. SO... until I have time to upload my newest creations, I thought I'd at least give you a quick pic of what the scrap space looked like at camp this year. I am not in the picture, so don't strain yourself searching for me. Fall camp in the first weekend in Oct and I am really looking forward to it. It's in a new location this time but I'm sure I'll love it just as much.

New Papers!

So I’m off to a 3 day scrapbook retreat this coming Thurs-Sun. I am SOOO EXCITED! This will be my 3rd once since I started scrapping about 1 1/2 years ago. It’s more or less a scrap when you want and sleep if there is time kind of weekend. But with no cell phone service and lots of table space- you get TONS done! I bought a few new things for my weekend away- such as a “Round it all” by Zutter, in Pink of course. A new paper piercer since my husband broke my last one trying to unclog a bottle of gorilla glue- I think the gorilla won that match up. I also had to buy 2 new lines of paper that were just too cute to pass up. I know I say that a lot but come on, this stuff is so cute! The first one is by Bo Bunny- “Alissa” although I didn’t buy anything but the papers. See- cute huh!

Alissa

The other line I bought- and for those of you who really know me, this is out of character- was the Pebbles Inc. “So Tweet”.

So Tweet

I hate birds. No, I should re-phrase that, I hate bird decor, bird papers, bird jewelry etc. SO when I saw this I thought that’s cute and walked away. 10 min later I’m still thinking about the darn bird so I knew he was just to cute to not buy! And yes, I did buy the stickers too! So my goal while on this retreat is to use the So Tweet line AND the bird stickers and come up with something so cute you’ll also have to go out and buy the line! I’ll post pics upon my return- happy waiting!

Rubix Cube Anyone?

So I ran across this awesome blog post from Teresa Collins- Blessed. She was given this darling altered Rubix Cube. Once I saw it, I knew I had to make one- my own style though! I posted an ad at work asking for a used Rubix Cube, and I said that it didn’t even have to work! I took me a while to actually finish this cube but I’m really proud of my final product! The pictures from left to right are my son Ace (28 months old), my nieces Emma (4 1/2) and her sister Lexi (1 1/2), Ace and dad, then the top that just says life. I hope this inspires you to create art out of the unused toys around your house!

By the way- the paper line I used was Cosmo Cricket ‘Lil Man and yes it was the remaining left over scraps from my March Design Team projects. See- still putting the scraps to use!

Abbey Road- Bo Bunny

I was up in Seattle a few weeks back and I went to my favorite scrapbook store in Kent, Scrapbook Nook- (http://www.scrapbooknook.info/). I found the adorable new line "Abbey Road" by Bo Bunny (http://www.bobunny.com/januaryrelease/14abbeyroad.pdf) and I said "I HAVE TO HAVE THIS ". About 2 weeks after my purchase, I decided that I had to do something with the paper. Here's what I came up with!

I've finally discovered the key to utilizing a scrapbook kit. You have to use it all before you move on. When you like a paper/patern, etc., you have to use it ALL and I mean ALL. Whatever's left when you're done throw away, give away, trade, do something with it, but don't put it in your scraps! I created this page with what was left after my first 2-page layouts. (Yes I know it's missing a title- haven't gotten around to that part yet!)

While I was at an all day crop with a bunch of friends and decided I had to do something with another one of my "I HAVE TO HAVE THIS" purchases, which were these adorable naked chipboard letters (also purchased at Scrapbook Nook). Naturally, I chose to spell my name, and since my new philosophy is to use up all of my kit, I figured out how to fit my letters on the papers just right and voila! Now it's hanging on my wall for all to see! (no my wall isn't pink, although that would be rather cute!) I used my crop-o-dile to punch the holes on the sides and bound them messily with ribbon. I used zip-dry to glue the spiral paper clips to the back so I could hang it on the wall. Pretty clever huh!

That was it for my Abbey Road line and yes I did get rid of the rest of it! Horray for no scraps!

More for March Design Team

Out of the same pack of Cosmo Cricket "Lil' Man" paper, I also created this 4 sided door hanger. The initial idea was to make a "shhh baby sleeping" but once you started reading the phrases, nothing really fit the bill. SO, out came the creativity! I decided each of the four sides was to be more of a point of where the boy was, or the type of mood he was trying to convey. It was bound using my Bind It All, but because of all the decorative ribbon I put on the wires, it doesn't actually flip over. I also used the Cricut to cut out the words "come in" on the cover, and "took off" on the 3rd page.

I'm here- come on in! I'm ready to fight... enter at your own risk
I'm not here

Wishing Dad would take me to a ball game!

Design Team projects March 2008

So I am finally deciding to post some of my works that I've created for the Scrap Happens Design Team. Some stuff I like, some I think is just okay but either way, I truely hope you get inspired to break out your inner scrapper!

All of these pages were made with the new 2009 Cosmo Cricket "Lil' Man" Crafting Kit.

The "Play Ball" page was intended to be a double layout however I just couldn't make it work for me. So I decided that since not everyone wants or needs a 2 page layout, I'd just leave it a single. I'm so glad I did! I love this page. It's simple but so cute!

This last page is another simple one. I really liked the phrase and had to use it. It's hard to read but it says, "I don't mean to find so much trouble, but mom keeps it everywhere. The cookie jar is full of it". See isn't that cute! I just envision pics on the page of a kid on the counter with his/her hand in the cookie jar, while mom is sneakily taking pictures, herself trying not to get caught.
